12:1-12 Meanwhile a crowd of
thousands of people had assembled so as to tread on one another. He began to say to his disciples first of all "Be careful not to take on
the leaven of the Pharisees which is hypocrisy. There is nothing which has been
completely covered which will not be uncovered. There is nothing hidden which will not
be known. Therefore what things
you say in darkness will be heard in the light. What you spoke in someone's ear in
private rooms will be proclaimed on
the house tops. I say to you
friends. Do not be afraid of those
who kill the body. After doing
these things they cannot do anything more to you. But I am warning you about who you
should fear. Fear the one whom you
will meet after you have been killed.
They have the authority to cast you into gehenna
(hell). Yes I say to you. Fear this one. (At the same
|
time)
are not five sparrows sold off for a couple of farthings? Yet not one of them has been forgotten
before God. (In your case) even
the very hairs on your head have all been numbered. Then do not fear. You are different (and more important)
than many sparrows. I tell you.
Everyone who owns up to knowing me before other people, the Son of
man will also own up to knowing that person before the angels of
God. But the one who denies me
before others will be denied before the angels of God. (On the other hand) whoever says a word
against the Son of man can be forgiven.
But whoever blasphemes against the Holy Spirit. They will not be forgiven. When they
bring you before synagogues and rulers and authorities, do not be anxious
about how you should answer or what you should say. For the Holy Spirit will teach you in
that same hour what things you should say."
