16:8-23 "When that one (the Comforter) comes he will
reprove the world about (its) sin and about (the need for ) righteousness
and judgment. As regards sin, it will be because
they do not believe in me.
Concerning righteousness, it will be because I am going to the
Father and you will no longer see me.
Concerning judgment, this will be because the ruler of this world
has (now) been judged. There
are still many things that I have to tell you. But you cannot bear them now. However when that one comes, the
Spirit of Truth, he will guide you into all the truth. Yet he will not speak from
himself. Rather what he hears
he will speak. He
will announce coming things to you. That one will glorify me because he
will accept and receive what is mine and will make announcements to
you. Everything that the Father
has is mine. Therefore I said
that he (the Comforter) receives what is mine and will make announcements
to you. A little while and you
will no longer see me. And,
again in a little while you will see me. "Some of the disciples
|
said
to one another "What is this he is telling us, that a little while and
you will not see me and again
in a little while you will see me?" and (also when he says) "This
is because I am going to the Father"? They therefore said "What does
he mean in saying the "little while"? We do not know what he is
saying." Jesus knew that
they wanted to question him and he said to them ""Concerning
this, you are asking one another because I said "A little while and
you will not see me and again in a little while you will see me? "Truly, truly I tell you that
you will weep and will lament and the world will rejoice. You will be grieved. But your grief will turn into joy. The woman when she gives birth has
grief because her time has come.
But when she brings forth the child she no longer remembers the
distress because of the joy that a man has been born into the world. And you therefore, now you do indeed
have grief. But I will see you
again and your heart will rejoice.
And, no one will be able to take your joy from you. In that day you will not question me
about anything."
