9          the disciples fall asleep

26:40-44

 

26:40 And he comes to the disciples and finds them sleeping, and says to Peter: So were ye not able one hour to watch with me? 41 Watch ye and pray, lest ye enter into temptation; indeed the spirit eager, but the flesh weak. 42 Again the second time going away he prayed saying: Father of me,

if cannot this to pass away except it I drink, let be done the will of thee 43 And coming again he found them sleeping for were of them the eyes having been burdened. 44 And leaving them again going away he prayed a third time, the same word saying again

 

10        the disciples . . . one betrays.

26:45-55

 

26:45 Then he comes to the disciples and says to them: Sleep ye now and rest; behold has drawn near the hour and the Son of man is betrayed into the hands of sinners. 46 Rise ye, let us be going behold has drawn near the one betraying me. 47 and still him speaking, behold Judas one of the twelve came, and with him crowd a much with swords and clubs from the chief priests and elders of the people 48 Now the one betraying him gave them a sign saying: Whomever I may kiss he it is; seize ye him 49 And immediately approaching to Jesus he said: Hail rabbi and affectionately kissed him. 50 But Jesus said to him Comrade do that on what thou art here.

Then approaching they laid the hands on Jesus and seized him 51 And behold one of the ones with Jesus stretching out the hand drew the sword of him, and striking the slave of the high priest cut off of him the ear. 52 Then says to him Jesus Put back the sword of thee into the place of it; for all the ones taking a sword by a sword will perish. 53 Or thinkest thou that I cannot to ask the Father of me, and he will provide me now more than twelve legions of angels? 54 how then may be fulfilled the Scriptures that thus it must be? 55 In that hour said Jesus to the crowds: As against a robber came ye forth with swords and clubs to take me? daily in the temple I sat teaching, and not ye seized me.

 

11        the disciples all leaving him fled

26:56-27:56

 

26:56 But this all has come to pass that may be fulfilled the Scriptures of the prophets. Then the disciples all leaving him fled. 57 But the

ones having seized Jesus led him away to Caiaphas the high priest, where the scribes and the elders were assembled. 58 And Peter followed him from afar up to the court of the high

priest,and entering within sat with the attendants to seethe end.59 And the chief priests and the council whole sought false witness against Jesus so as him they might put
